Labour Conference Highlights 2017

Crowdburst

Young leaders Billy and Jamal (aged 17), from Sussex Clubs for Young People attended the Youth Zone on behalf of Ambition UK on the Sunday afternoon. It was their first time at conference, having been nominated by their project worker, Chris Cook, due to their interest in youth-led campaigning and volunteering.

Billy commented: “My favourite part of the day was listening to the panel discussion with Ed Miliband and Andy Burnham. You really felt that the Labour Party strongly value young people in our society. Personally, I would like to see more funding put into youth work across the country as I have seen first-hand the benefit it makes to young lives. I run youth activities in my local community and it’s something I really enjoy.”

Formal discussions centred around the impact of Brexit, the digital skills-gap and online safety, with contributions from Lisa Nandy MP, Cat Smith MP and Anne Longfield Children’s Commissioner. Ed Miliband MP chaired a lively panel debate to conclude proceedings, addressing questions on personal safety in schools, gender inequalities and social mobility.
