West Sussex VCS Safeguarding Forum
The West Sussex Voluntary and Community Sector Safeguarding Forum exists to support voluntary and community sector organisations in keeping children and young people safe in West Sussex.
The members are safeguarding leads from a diverse range of organisations from across the county representing a variety of services working with different groups of children, young people and families in a multitude of ways. It exists as a mechanism to keep member organisations up to date with safeguarding knowledge and processes, to disseminate information from the West Sussex Safeguarding Children Partnership (WSSCP) and to provide a collective voice to inform the WSSCB from the sector’s perspective.
The forum meets 4 times a year at locations spread across the area, usually with a relevant guest speaker, an opportunity for networking and support, and updates in knowledge. Between meetings, information from WSSCB is regularly distributed by email to the group, and requests for information/responses are sought and fed back to the WSSCB. Members are asked to commit to attending all the forum meetings or to send a delegate in their place in order that their organisation is represented and able to take the learning from the meeting back to both their own organisation and to cascade in their wider network.
The chair attends meetings of the West Sussex Safeguarding Children Partnership to bring the voice of the forum. The forum is currently developing an Introduction to Safeguarding training offer for its members to deliver on behalf of the West Sussex Safeguarding Children Partnership.
Local training organisations e.g. Safety Net offers training for community groups, as well as support in developing policies and procedures through their workshops and quality assurance scheme. They also provide training in Protective behaviours for schools and social workers, and provide online safety training for professionals and parents & carers.
