Sussex Clubs for Young People deliver UK Youth Achievement Awards (UKYAA) to our members and the young people they work with between the ages of 9 and 25. These awards enable young people to choose a challenge to work on as a group, setting targets that are suited to their own ability and understanding rather than a standardised marking scheme which makes them accessible to all young people’s needs. They champion a youth-led framework which can be applied to almost any activity using a plan, do and review method involving a variety of learning methods.
There are 5 different levels of the award with Sussex Clubs for Young People currently offering 3 of them. Each of them has a different number of challenges that need to be completed for the participant to be successful. A challenge must last at least 10 hours so for a Bronze award that requires 30 hours, 1 challenge could be 10 hours and the other 20 or you could split them equally 15 hours each.
Our staff at Sussex Clubs for Young People are here to support you at every part of your groups award journey. The costs include the following:
- Delivery folder with a Guide on how to deliver the awards, activity suggestions with listed resources needed and suggested evaluation and further discussions for the activities
- Pre-award delivery meeting with SCYP member of staff at our offices where they will inform you of how the awards are structured and what evidence is needed for the young people to be successful
- Example of a completed portfolio that will achieve standards needed of evidencing work
- A visit (or multiple depending on length of award) to your youth group to deliver a session, check that evidence portfolios are on track and to answer and questions that you, your team or your young people may have
- SCYP member of staff available for support via emails and phone calls as and when needed
- The young person’s award book to track their challenges
- Certificate for the young person upon completion
- Support with organising an awards ceremony and inviting local dignitaries
- Publicising the work your young people do on our social media, website and in local media
We have been successful in applying for funding to provide the awards at such a low cost to our members. We endeavour to keep these prices low but anticipate that costs may rise in the future.
